Network Updates

Upgrade of Customer Radios

June 2009
In June PrimoWireless started an ongoing upgrade process of old customer radios at customers premises, which enables us to move forward with technology and allow for better monitoring and control of the network into the future, this will also enable us to upgrade security on all our access points and it will allow for a better automated billing system which will be setup later in the year.

New Access Point Carrington Road Area

December 2009, January and February 2010

In December PrimoWireless setup a new AP site in the upper Carrington Road Area which will give even more Taranaki people access to our network, this new Carrington Rd site allowed us to upgrade our Plymouth Rd site to be able to handle more customers after an influx of installs were completed in that area. During the months of January and February we installed and setup a new dedicated link which will feed our network and our customers, with this link we are now able to offer faster speeds, static IP's, and even more services to be announced later in the year - so keep an eye out!

Upgrade of Network - PPPoE login and billing system

September, October and November 2009

During the last few months there have been several major changes on the PrimoWireless network, we have now moved to a PPPoE login and billing system, which will see the network easier to manage into the future, in conjunction with this upgrade there has been a new self service website setup for PrimoWireless customers to use, this enables them to see how much usage they have used at any time, this system is live and updated automatically so at all times the site shows historic usage as well as current usage, etc

PrimoWireless launched a new access point which covers the northern area just above Waitara, the AP site is situated high up on Mataro Rd, which overlooks down to the Onaero and Methanex plant areas, including Ohanga Rd, Turangi Rd (lower and upper), Otaraoa Rd, Main North Rd, Inland North Rd and Waiau Roads. These residents will be excited that they can now get a premium broadband service at a low cost, and we have already connected over a dozen now happy people in the area since the site was officially launched in October 2009, the coverage map has also been updated to reflect this new AP site.

The Access Point on Bridgeman Rd has had an overhaul, and the main AP for there and the Uplink radios were all replaced with more standardised radios so it can now run as part of the new network, all users were then switched over to the new PPPoE system to be in line with the rest of the network, client radio upgrades will continue slowly as needed over the coming months. As said in the last few posts and also above, more clients have been upgraded to the newer radios over these past few months, as this is an ongoing project we would like to thank the customers for their support for any downtime they may have had while we did the upgrades, most of these have now be completed but there are a few still to do during the next year.

Security and Durham Road Upgrade

August 2009
Several important security and encryption upgrades have been done over the month of August, the PrimoWireless network now entirely uses the highest level of wireless security and encryption available on the market for all its access points and uplinks.
Two core switches were replaced on the network this month at the main Korito and Hursthouse sites, this will enable better traffic throughout and speeds across the entire PrimoWireless network.
Also during August the access point at Durham Rd was updated to newer and better equipment, the uplink for the access point was moved from the old network to the new network which is now fed from town and was setup last month, a larger capacity UPS for power outages was installed and much more efficient radios will see a lot better uptime moving into the future.
As said in the last few posts, more customers have been upgraded to the newer radios this month, as this is still an ongoing project we would like to thank those customers for their support for any downtime they may have had while we did the upgrades.

Server and Router Upgrades

July 2009
During July the network received major changes and upgrades, which included moving servers and routers to a New Plymouth CBD location for faster and more dedicated internet speeds, also new wireless uplinks were put in place from the CBD to the Rural PrimoWireless network which was previously based and fed from Inglewood.
In an effort to make the radios on our network more efficient and because of a severe thunderstorm we had this month destroying some - most transmitter sites on the PrimoWireless network have now been upgraded to 24V power supplies, thank you for your patience while these upgrades were completed.
